Teachers' Night 2011

Are you ready for a mission? EdLab is starting a new Twitter campaign at Smithsonian's Teachers' Night: "Capturing 21st Century Learning". How does learning happen? Where does learning take place? We look for learning through "The 4 C's": Communication, Collaboration, Critical Thinking, and Creativity. Share the kinds of 21st century learning you see on Twitter. Make sure to mention us @SIEdLab.

If you are not at Teachers' Night, you can still participate! Help us capture examples of 21st century learning everywhere!

Also, check out the rest of this website to find more info on the EdLab and how you can get involved!

Innovation at NMAI

Today our educators are exploring innovation at the National Museum of the American Indian. They are finding examples in the museum and then making connections to today. Facilitators and participants updated the team on what they were experiencing in the museum.

Around 11:30, teams were given a game changer: include food innovation in your explorations and final presentation. We had a special guest during our lunch at Mitsitam, the NMAI cafe.  Chef Richard Heztler discussed the impact of native foods like potatoes, chocolate and tomatoes on the world. He also explained how Mitsitam was developed out of American Indian traditions with modern twists.

With full bellies and new inspiration, our participants began to synthsize their ideas about American Indian innovations. They presented the final projects at the Rasmuson Theater for other participants and museum staff. Our teachers have a greater understanding and respect for American Indian innovations and cultures. How have these things affected your life?
