EdLab has had a pretty busy month. Between Workshop 2.0, Education Innovators, Classroom 2.0, and Teachers' Night we have worked with over 350 teachers!! This month we also decided to try something new: bring EdLab outside the museum!
We traveled to Friendship Collegiate Academy to host a workshop for 30 teachers from the Friendship Public Charter Schools. We had everything from Pre-K to Grade 12, technology teacher to band instructor. The teachers split into two groups that each focused on a different mission to solve. One was authentic experiences in the 21st century and the other was literacy today. The groups then divided into teams of 3 or 4 and got to work.
One team was inspired by these wooden models and decided to create a story through video to explore the different types of 21st century literacy. The story was about two people from different backgrounds that came together to make music.
The team shared their final product, a video edited with iMovie, with the whole group.
Another group used a rubber glove to address the issue of HIV/AIDS in DC. They created a campaign and presented it with Prezi.
The educators have been tasked with taking everything they have experienced and applying it to their own classrooms. The possibilities are endless!
